The single best product for my IBS!
I have now been using this product for at least six months. Along with focusing on soluble fiber first in my meals, this fiber supplement has at long last, turned my IBS around. I am ever so grateful to Heather! I am also extremely pleased with the customer service; one time I received a packet of fiber that had broken apart during shipment. I contacted Heather's and within two days, I had a brand new packet. I am an OB/GYN NP and have been recommending this site and company to my IBS patients. I have not had good success yet although tummy does feel better.

Still constipated more than not but am increasing the product in my daily intake slowly.

Hi Christine - For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If you get gas or bloating, that would mean you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either. It sounds like you're on the right track with this, and it's a great sign that you are seeing improvements along the way.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

Tummy Fiber gave me my life back!
I suffered from IBS-D for the past 20 years. My stomach was so unpredictable that I stopped going out...to restaurants, movies, parks. I would venture out to stores as long as I knew where the bathrooms were, and would not eat until I was home. I started taking Heather's Tummy Fiber four years ago and it literally has given me back my life. I go out! To eat!! And to movies, on long car rides. Has it cured me 100%? No... 15 yrs. of issues. I Read the book, did the hypnotherpy for 99 times, use Tummy fiber one tea spoon/meal. Helps prevent diarrhea
I take 1/2 T of acacia powder before each meal. It helps prevent diarrhea. It's essential during travel. I would like to know more about its probiotic properties. Would it help prevent sotmach upset from taking antibiotics?

I am not sure if the acacia is still working,
I dislike peppermint tea but the first 2 times I drank it for the severe ibs pain i suffer it worked to soothe my colon but after that, not so much.

Great Product!
I love this product & believe it is the best I have tried when trying to increase fiber. It is easy & portable! Wish it dissolved just a bit quicker... I put 1-2 packets in my 20oz water bottle, eventually it does & I wouldn't trade the convenience of the packets. I have the refillable container at home but this time when I re-order, I'm purchasing more of the packets because it is just easier to fill my water bottle with the packets... One question, I know you can bake with this, but what about adding it to Heather's Tea's? Is that an option?

Handy for eating out or the office
Pre-measured packets of acacia fiber for use on the go. Very handy to stash in my purse. Older ones were hard to open — but I haven't had this problem with the new scored packets.

Natural Soluble Fiber
It may be easier to use fiber tablets, but they don't have as much fiber and are more expensive. The only drawbacks are mixing this into liquids (it's like making flour thickener for gravy, liquid into the powder or you get lumps) and having to measure it out. I suggested they include a measuring scoop with the canister. I just keep a small plastic measuring spoon inside.

Tummy Fiber

Great effective product!
I have battled diarrhea on and off for years. After numerous tests and scans Dr's have never officially diagnosed me with any specific cause. I discovered your website last fall after undergoing 3 cancer surgeries in one month. Having had my symptons under control for years with the use of probiotics, the heavy doses of antibiotics during those surgeries caused them to come roaring back. I have been using Acacia for about seven months.
I have had IBS for 15-20 years. I have tried several products with limited success. The most helpful was Lomotol Which I used when I had an attack. While on Acacia I have needed th Lomotol much less. I take about 2 tsp. each morning which has brought vast improvement.

The packet slit

Sometimes the slit is too far up the packet to open it and other times the slit is not deep enough and it's hard to open the packet.

Great Idea!
I do quite a bit of air travel and had wondered about how to take my soluable fiber with me and not raise questions. A baggie full of white powder through security- not a good idea- So am very glad to have the travel packs-just went through security with them last week with no problems. The soluable fiber works well for me and I always have some in my purse to have on hand for restaurants or last minute meal surprises.

Hi Becky!

I am so sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the Acacia Tummy Fiber.

Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because this really does work.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). Since this may even be too much for you, try perhaps 1/4teaspoon (measuring spoon) twice a day. You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose)or even just 1/4 teaspoon if you are sensitive to it. If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

Life Changing Fiber
Finding Heather's website was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. My IBS was getting to a point where I was nearly homebound. Everything I ate made me sick. I started taking an over the counter fiber, which helped a little, but the big warning on the label telling me I would probably choke to death kept me from taking the amount I needed and made me even more of a nervous wreck. I started taking Heather's acacia fiber when I saw that it didn't have choking properties. I got results almost immediately. Over time, I've been able to live much more normally (like most IBS sufferers, I haven't found a permanent solution yet). I can go out to eat more than five feet from my house, and I can take car trips (and even one plane trip) without suffering any problems. Although this isn't a magic powder that will solve IBS, it's the closest thing I've found.

I am so grateful that you chose to package these for travel. I travel internationally and once my loose powder was taken from me at customs overseas because they suspected it was drugs! Hi Gina - thank you so much for your feedback. You may want to use the Tummy Fiber in the canister or bulk refill pouch for your daily at-home fiber. This is the exact same fiber that's in the travel packets, but much more economical packaging. The travel packs are great for carrying with you and when you're out and about, but for use at home they are going to be more expensive than the can or pouch.

Constipation does often require the higher end of the dose range, up to 5 tablespoons daily. Try to gradually increase your dose and see if that gives you better resolution.

same effect as regular fiber

after 3 days of only 1/2 teaspoon twice daily I was so miserable with trapped gas and bloating it had to be stopped . Your peppermint oil was a miraculous cure after 2 weeks but had to be given up after 3 weeks since it was eating up my esophagus and stomach. I am so sorry that you are experiencing problems with the Acacia Tummy Fiber and the Peppermint Capsules. I am sure that if you stick with it, and continue using the Fiber, you will see results. It can take a while to build up to a resolving dose.

I've included some helpful information below on how the Tummy Fiber and Peppermint Capsules work, as well as methods for reducing your bloating and gas.

If you decide you do not want to use the Acacia Tummy Fiber/Peppermint Oil Capsules, you can return them opened or unopened for a refund.

Some people need to take a very small dose to start because their bodies are sensitive to fiber. Try taking just 1/4 measuring teaspoon twice a day. It may be that you just need to start at a very low dose.

Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because this really does work.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose). If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn’t take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

Peppermint is contraindicated for people with GERD/Reflux/chronic heartburn. Many people with IBS often have these conditions, so we worked around it by enteric coating the peppermint oil capsules. This helps them to pass through the stomach without dissolving by making them resistant to the stomach acid. In fact, we doubled the enteric coating on our peppermint caps because we found it helped people with these conditions to be able to use them to manage their IBS without aggravating their upper GI issues.

However, some people with severe GERD/Reflux/chronic heartburn still have problems with the peppermint capsules because they will dissolve in the stomach before reaching the intestines. The antispasmodic effect you want to happen in your intestines will then occur in the stomach and this relaxes the sphincters at the top of the stomach. If this happens, it can lead to heartburn.

There are a few things we have found that help to prevent this from happening:

1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they’ll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn’t take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

I would suggest reading both of Heather’s books so you can thoroughly understand all the ways to help stabilize IBS. The diet and soluble fiber will work more with the cause and help to stabilize you. Acacia helps people with diarrhea to have formed bowel movements and people with constipation to have softer and easier to pass bowel movements. People often experience significant improvement within a couple weeks when they make the dietary and fiber changes at the same time; although, constipation does take longer to resolve than diarrhea. It is not uncommon for constipation folks to increase the acacia very slowly because they are more likely to have trouble with painful gas and bloating. It can take 1-2 months to work up to the daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day sometimes. It will only make you miserable if you increase the dose too quickly. Important changes are taking place inside the colon as the body adjusts, so just be patient and let your body gently adjust to the acacia.

I am sorry you are not seeing results as quickly as you would like. For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If you get gas or bloating, that would mean you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either. You may want to start over following these directions and see if you have better luck.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

But, because it is a whole, natural, organic fiber, and not extracted, refined, synthetic, or highly processed, that is sometimes more variable than we would like.

Acacia is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot.

Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids. We're constantly working to minimize these variations.

Not working well for me

I was very excited to try the Tummy Fiber and very hopeful that it would help me. However, it has not worked for me. First let me tell you that I have been diagnosed with IBS and have also been diagnosed with Gastroparesis. I do not have diarrhea, if anything, I have constipation (or lack of movement since my stomach only empties every 5 hours). I have a very healthy diet and eat very little at a time. When I read on your website that the Tummy Fiber would help with diarrhea OR constipation I was thrilled. I started with 1 teaspoon twice a day. It slowed things down even more, bulked up my stool, actually making my situation worse. And yes, I am trying to follow your soluble, insoluble, stay away from trigger foods plan. I do everything I know to do and nothing helps. I feel so helpless. Nothing works, nothing helps, nothing makes it better. :(

I'm so sorry to hear you're still struggling with constipation. For how long have you been taking the Tummy Fiber? Are you currently taking 2 teaspoons a day? Typically, a resolving dose for individuals suffering from constipation will fall between 3 and 5 tablespoons. As the Tummy Fiber will not cause constipation or diarrhea, it may be the case that you need to reach a higher dose before experiencing symptom relief. I would recommend continuing with the Tummy Fiber and gradually increasing your dose by 1/2 to 1 teaspoon every 4 to 5 days. I think, as your daily dose increases, you will begin to see positive results. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you further or if you have any additional questions.

It has been our experience that Customs can hold packages for 6-8 weeks sometimes. This doesn’t happen to all packages, but occasionally especially with larger orders, it can happen. A delay like this is especially likely to happen when there are Customs fees due upon delivery. Sometimes orders will be held at the local post office, awaiting customer pick-up and payment of the Customs fees. This has actually happened in the past without the post office ever notifying the customer that their package was being held.

Super delivery time; Easy way to add fiber to diet
I find it difficult to get 21 gr fiber in my daily diet without adding the fiber. I am up to 3 tsp/per day and am slowly working up to more.
