the product seemed different to me this time. see details below

there was product all over the outside of both pouches. I didn't see a rip anywhere so that was a mystery. But this order doesn't dissolve as fast as the others I've received. It still seems to work so I'm using it. Since I didn't speak to anyone I can't really rate the customer service option above. I think you need another button for that that says Not Applicable.

Packets too small to be of use to me

Hi Andrea - I'm so sorry to hear this. The average daily dose of people's Tummy Fiber varies tremendously, from a few teaspoons per day all the way up to five tablespoons per day. We tried to make the packets practical for the broadest range of people, especially since it is easier to use a few packets at a time than to try and divide and save for later part of one larger packet. If you are on the high end of the daily dose range you would definitely need more packets than someone with a low to medium daily dose.

The packets are really most practical when traveling, but for daily home use the canister and refill pouches are simpler.

product does not mix well

There seems to be a difference from past shipments. The product no longer mixes as it did in the past. Very clumpy and it sticks to my mini whisk. This is the first time it has done this. Customer service was very nice and offered a free bag of acacia. I have yet to see that bag and is the reason I gave a 3 otherwise I would have rated CS with a 5.

Acacia doesn't mix well.

My latest refill does not mix in water easily. Is this a different product? I've used Acacia for 6 years and never had this problem.

It was different.

I have been getting the fiber from you for quite a while. This time the amount of fiber I received, was not as much as usual. It did not fill my container up. Also the consistancey is different. I use to could mix it in a cup of coffee with little problem;just had to mush it up a little. But this time, it really comes to the top of the cup and I have to mix it and mush it more than usual. Something just seems different in it this time. So I wasn't as pleased as I usually am. Is it different now?

I am so sorry to hear shipping and duty costs are becoming prohibitive. Our shipping rates are based on the average cost to ship when we examined 6 months of order history. Occasionally, someone might pay a little more or a little less than the actual shipping charge, but in the end we sometimes break even. We do not, nor do we want to, make a profit on shipping. Our shipping policies are detailed on the website here http://www.helpforibs.com/shop/shipping.asp and there is also a specific shipping price provided on the checkout page when you order online.

We completely understand customers' frustrations with shipping prices, because they just keep going up. USPS has raised the prices for priority mail shipping twice in the last eighteen months. This means we have to keep increasing our shipping prices as well. It is simply not feasible to charge customers the actual shipping cost for each order. There are too many variations in flat rate versus variable rate packaging, size, and weight issues. It is the industry standard to create a shipping fee schedule based on the average cost of shipping per item (www.amazon.com does this as well).

There is no less expensive means of shipping that we're aware of. FedEx and UPS are both as expensive (or more) than priority mail, and they usually take longer for delivery as well.

In addition, it has been our experience that Customs can hold packages for 6-8 weeks sometimes. This doesn't happen to all packages, but occasionally especially with larger orders, it can happen. A delay like this is especially likely to happen when there are Customs fees due upon delivery.

Unfortunately, we have no control over this or even any advance knowledge of what kinds of duties/taxes will be charged on goods once they leave the US.

There is a solid reason for the sudden change in UK customs charges, however. For years we filled out customs forms with just the lowest possible value of the raw materials, not the retail purchase price, to hopefully help prevent our customers from being charged extra duties and customs taxes. The customs forms were filled out in a standardized format for all foreign orders, so the prices listed were the same across the board for all orders shipped out, regardless of the country of destination. A few months ago, we were contacted by a UK customs official who stated that we could no longer do that. The value of goods on customs forms to the UK had to state the exact value of the goods as listed on the invoices. We have complied with that request, so that is likely now affecting the duties charged to UK customers. We were not given any more details by the officer who contacted us, and when we tried to follow up and get more information we never received a reply.

I'm so sorry about this. Foreign orders are always a frustration for us, because shipping is so expensive, and orders can be delayed for weeks in customs, and then on top of it all the customs/duties fees are so unpredictable and inconsistent. We do hope to pick up an EU distributor sometime soon, which would solve a lot of these problems for our customers. Until then, we are struggling with finding good solutions to all these issues, especially for our UK customers.

There are some European sites that carry our products and because they are ecommerce giants, they may offer more shipping options and hopefully something less expensive for UK customers. The one to try is http://www.vitaminsuk.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=568

I'm using the Tummy Fiber
I have IBS, I also had quite a bit of bloating over past 6+ months, all tests show normal (blood work, CT-Scan, ultrasound, etc). The Tummy Fiber is making a difference. I take 2xD about 2 tsp. I have also given up milk, yogurt, I do eat cheese occasionally - I used Almond milk, now Soy. I'm fine w/it and feel it also has made a difference. I'm glad I found you online - thank you.

Love this stuff!!!
I ordered this product because I was experiencing constipation due to newly prescribed medication. I did not want to start the merry go round of stool softeners and laxatives. So I searched for a natural answer. I ran across this product and it does work wonderfully. I had some concern that it may cause gas. I am a natural gas bag already so I started off with a small dose and worked my way up. I never had any trouble with gas. I can now take my medicine everyday and not worry about how it effects my bowels. My plumbing is in tip top shape. Thanks Tammy!!

acacia powder review

I dry mix 1 tablespoon of acacia powder,two Tabs of ground chia, an overloaded tsp of carob powder and a tsp or bit more of gelatin to help firm up my bowels.I'm hoping the mixture is also a bit effective with my interstitial cystitis. I'll be ordering more as this controls the runs and the cramping. Wish we had something that cures it, rather than just bandaid it. Thankyou Heather.

Hi Phil - I am so sorry to hear this. The acacia is a single ingredient, certified organic product that we package in-house in a closed clean room and on a dedicated acacia powder filling line. There should never be any contamination whatsoever. If you find anything like this please call or email us directly right away and we will investigate.

Because the acacia is a 100% pure and organic soluble fiber, it will absorb moisture from its surroundings, including the air itself if it is humid. That can sometimes cause the product to clump a bit, as it would something like flour or cornstarch. This is even more likely to happen if you use a spoon that's a bit wet to dip right into the acacia for your dose. Over time, that bit of moisture can cause clumps that will look like white or pale yellow bits. You should see these bits dissolve back into any liquid that you add them to.

Because the acacia is natural and not synthetic, and very minimally processed, the color can vary a bit and sometimes the granularity varies as well.

Please do let us know if you ever see anything that doesn't fall into this type of issue, and we will take that extremely seriously.

With the Tummy Fiber, it's important to begin with a small dose twice daily (about 1/2 teaspoon per dose) and gradually increase your daily doses until your symptoms are resolved. Typically, people will find their resolving dose between 1 and 5 tablespoons total daily. For people with diarrhea, the resolving dose is usually between 1 and 3 tablespoons. For people with constipation, the resolving dose is usually between 3 and 5 tablespoons. I'd keep gradually increasing your dose and see if that helps. Great for travel.
The packets are great for airline travel. Avoids having a zip-loc bag of "white powder" to alarm the TSA! I'd like to see larger packet size, though. Currently, 1 tsp. It would be great if you offered a 1 tbs size packet as well. It would mean less packets to carry along.

I have been using Tummy Fiber for years now. Every once in a while I am convinced that I am cured of IBS and I stop taking the Acacia. I always regress and go back to it. I feel normal again
I started with 1/2 teaspoon twice a day dose (once in the morning and then after dinner) and within the first week I was starting to become regular and noticing a lot less gas. I tried to up the dose gradually but I think it may have been too much because I had diarrhea, unless that was something unrelated. I stayed at the 1/2 teaspoon dose and it keeps me regular but would like to increase it to help a little more with the constipation. I missed a dose or two during the past week and I had horrible trapped gas pains...needless to say I will not miss a dose again! I have had gastric bypass surgery and this stuff really helps me with controlling gas, because its a big problem afterwards. My "bad" IBS days went from 2-3 a week to not even once a week, more like 1 bad day out of 3 weeks. This product is awesome!

Very gentle
After several bouts of Diverticulitis, I was told I needed to take supplemental fiber. After using several other fibers which caused severe cramping and bloating, I decided to try your Tummy Fiber. This is the best fiber suppliment I have ever used. It dissolves completely, and has hardly any taste; so easy to take. Heather's customer service is excellent. Lumpy when mixed with liquid

The fiber does not mix well. It gets very lumpy when liquid is added to it. I wish it mixed better-more like benefiber does. Other than that, it's the best i've tried.

Hi, Tracy!

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot.

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

Hi,

For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If you got gas or bloating, that would mean you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either. You may want to start over following these directions and see if you have better luck.

I have a new life, and have recommended it to my G.I. DR. I was reluctant to leave the house.

Hi Arlene - thank you for your comments. My guess is that you are taking enough Tummy Fiber to help but not enough to really resolve your symptoms. Try gradually increasing your dose by about an extra ½ teaspoon every four days or so. When you get up to 3 tablespoons per day I think you are going to have better results.

The max dose of acacia is 5 tablespoons per day, so you are nowhere near that limit. In general, diarrhea resolves at the lower end of the dose range, alternating diarrhea and constipation takes a dose in the mid range, and chronic constipation takes the high end of the dose range. Please keep me posted.

My wife was suffering from colitis- with as many as 20 trips to the bathroom a day. This went on for 5 months. HM Customs charges

I have been ordering this product for years but this last three times I have been hit with HM custom charges which makes it very expensive. I will have to source a supplier nearer to home.

Hi Norma - I am so sorry about the customs charges. We do everything we can to try and minimize that on our end, but it is up to the receiving foreign country to determine import, duties, and customs charges. Unfortunately, the UK is by far the worst - and most expensive - when it comes to customs charges. We have noticed that they have significantly increased those charges over the past year or two. I wish that we had control over this but we don't. We are always on the lookout for local vendors in the UK and the EU so folks would have options much closer to home. There is also an EU website with our products here http://www.vitaminsuk.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=568 that may have better shipping/customs options for you than we can provide in the US.

I like the product, although now that I am up to 1 tablespoon a day, it is not working as well.
I think I have to try and drink another 2 or 3 drinks a day for my constipation.

Hi Carol - I am so sorry to hear this. There should be no way that the Tummy Fiber can cause diarrhea. Soluble fiber can only help both diarrhea and constipation.

Did you start at a dose of ½ teaspoon twice daily and gradually increase? Most folks need to work up to about 2 or 3 tablespoons per day for the best results. But, some people do stabilize at a lower dose, and chronic constipation tends to take 4-5 tablespoons per day.

What you don't want is to just stay at ½ teaspoon twice a day, as that isn't enough to do anything for you. It's just a beginning dose to get your gut used to an increase in fiber. You also want to increase gradually, not suddenly or drastically increase your dose and overwhelm your gut.

Please let me know if you have any questions and would like more help with your dosage. You are also welcome to simply return the Tummy Fiber if you can't use it.

Great service from someone who knows how to control IBS
I was desperate to find help for this condition. Much to my dismay and after many dollars spent consulting with gastroenterologists, no one seemed to have any answers about how to control my symptoms. Hi Dorothy - I'm so sorry to hear this. Nothing has changed with the acacia, but we're happy to replace your pouch with a new one and see if that makes a difference for you.

If you are pouring the fiber out of the pouch into a canister or other container, make sure that the container is kept clean and dry and airtight. Acacia is water soluble, so it will absorb moisture from containers and even from the air if it is humid. That can lead to off-tastes. Keeping it airtight will prevent that.

Tummy fiber works!
I love this stuff! It works, it's easy to use, doesn't affect the taste of anything you use it on etc. I put it in my applesauce, on sandwiches, anywhere I can think of. I do have to say that apple cider vinegar also helps a great deal with the bloating. I suffer from IBS-C and it's very hard to counteract the bloating/gas/constipation that happens from eating normal foods that other people have no issues with. I also can't eat soy and many of the recipes in the book contain soy. This leave me with very few diet choices - I'm vegetarian. I really like the tummy fiber!

I love the tummy fiber.

Excellent Source of Fiber for IBS
I am IBS-C (severely). I get bloated, gassy and stomach distention from my IBS. I love Acacia fiber supplement. It is an excellent source of fiber for IBS. It relieves my bloating, gas and stomach distention as well as helping my bile. Acacia has a probiotic in it. The probiotic I take daily along with the Acacia gives me great relief. I would not use any other form of fiber.

There is essentially no taste. I may be wierd, but to make it easier and more convenient to use, I just pour it out of the bag into my mouth, add water, swish, and swallow.

Very lumpy

This doesn't blend into my drinks the way Benefiber does. it's very lumpy and looks unappetizing. We'll see if it works any differently than that.

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. Here is a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.
