Complex feedback on Fennel Tea Order

Speed of delivery even faster than needed. The fennel tea also delivers gut relief to me quickly, and this speed I welcome. Nothing else I do for relief acts as quickly. I have long felt that the postage fees are much too large a cost. They often represent a 1/3 increase in costs for purchases. With this order I took more initiative and talked to customer service. I found out that postage depends on the number of items ordered. However, after 3 items there are no increases in postage charges. This information needs to be given to your customers so that they can plan their puchases accordingly.

We have actually added text about that to our website check out pages in bold red, so hopefully more people will see it. You are right, postage fees have increased extraordinarily in the past few years, and it is a source of tremendous frustration for us.

One of the ways we've tried to work around this is to have postage max out at three items, so after that there is no additional postage cost. But you let us know that we needed to do a better job at letting our customers know about this. So hopefully thanks to you this information is now more visible!

Caused me more pain

This tea caused me more pain and discomfort. It bloated me up really badly. Sadly I bought three cans of this stuff. Every time I drink it I get painful bloating and gas that lasts all night.

I'm so sorry if the recipes seem too easy - I really wanted this book to be accessible for everyone, whether they'd been cooking gourmet meals for years, or they had never boiled water in their life. That's why there are 175 recipes - I tried to be as comprehensive as possible, so there are all-American traditional favorites as well as exotic ethnic options.

If you find things too bland by all means increase the herbs and spices called for in the recipes. I tend to season things very generously, but if it's not enough for you please use more - in general, most all herbs and spices are digestive aids, so there is no need to eat bland food just because you have IBS. Foods should be delicious as well as safe for IBS!

Really felt a difference
I'm one of those customers that is guilty of NEVER reviewing products. However, I really felt like this tea deserve some major compliments. I started feeling weird in my tummy since last summer and I went to the doctor many times but he never took my stomach troubles seriously. I got very discouraged and depressed because I always ate really healthy and couldn't figure out why I was constipated and bloated ALL THE TIME. I was really fit and worked out all the time but since I developed this (I was never diagnosed but I'm sure it's IBS) I lost all interest in anything. Then I try couple things and finally I found Heather's website. I have the peppermint oil, fennel tummy tea, the book and I can't thank Heather enough for finally helping me gaining control of my symptoms.

Really helped me!

I'm sorry to hear that the fennel tea isn't working well for your symptoms.
It's best to almost "overwhelm" your system with the tea to really kick out the bloating and gas. Drink the tea till you're sick of it!

You can also try the peppermint oil capsules to help prevent the bloating and gas. Take these before a meal (ALWAYS on an empty stomach) as a preventative measure.

If you do decide that you don't like the fennel tea, you can certainly return it to us for a refund, even if it's been opened.

Made me much worse!

I've tried this product in the past and believed that it caused diarrhea. But, thinking it was a fluke, I ordered it again to help with bloating and gas. I drank 2 cups in 2 days and had a bout of severe diarrhea with horrible gas following it. I will not be using this tea anymore - it is not safe for me!

So far so good!
I have been drinking 1 cup of hot Fennel tea daily along with 1 Peppermint capsule every morning and Acacia fiber 3 times a day. I had to get used to the Fennel tea's taste but it grew on me. Hi Karen - you can add the Tummy Fiber to any moist food or liquid, or cook with it. For liquids, just add to your glass first then add your beverage, stir and dissolve. You can also add it to bottled water, shake it up, and drink or take with you. Sprinkle on any wet food - hot cereals, guacamole, pastas, soups, sauces, dips, puddings, tuna salad, etc. For baking add 1 T fiber per cup of flour. For other cooking, whisk in 1 T fiber per cup of liquid. Hope this helps!

This product actually works and works quickly.
I use it once or twice a day when i have symptoms. It takes away the cramps and gas and a good amount of bloating. I also have the peppermint capsuls they work as well. Purchaed your product throug Amazon i think. I have followed the rules eat soluable first and tha is working. My question is I am tryin to diet and don't quite know how to balance the "white carbs" if you will. Eating them as the most part of my meal is a little concerning for weight loss. I bought this for my son who was diagnosed with IBS-C. I have not noticed any change from using these products, or altereing his diet. Nothing in this kit seems to make a significant difference to his health condition.

Hi Farah - Thank you for your feedback. I'm so sorry your son has not yet seen improvements. IBS constipation can certainly take longer to resolve than diarrhea.

For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that he starts with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increases to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If he gets gas or bloating, that would mean he increased his dose too quickly.

It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose he'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately he can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep the gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

Hi Judie - Constipation does often require a higher dose range of the fiber, but you have to increase your dose gradually, so this can take some patience (which is easier to say than to live with, I know).

Typically people start with ½ teaspoon twice daily, and then add an extra ½ tsp to one of those doses every 4-5 days. Keep gradually increasing until constipation resolves. That may end up taking 3-5 tablespoons per day, but get there gradually. It's okay if this takes a few weeks or even months - a slow and steady increase is much more likely to work than trying to take too much, too quickly. The fiber is not a drug or a laxative, so it won't work overnight.

The pep caps are best for preventing IBS pain, spasms, and cramps. These should be really helpful for the stomachache issues. They have to be taken on an empty stomach, as they need to reach your intestines before they dissolve. I find them most helpful before meals. Those can just be taken as needed.

Tummy Fiber did not agree with me

I am so sorry to hear that the Acacia did not agree with you. Some people are more sensitive to it, and need to start at a very low dose, 1/4 tsp. or even 1/8 tsp two times a day to start, until your body can become accustomed to the additional fiber.

Hi Kate - The Fennel tea does have a mild black licorice taste to it. If you're not too keen on the taste, try adding some sugar or honey to sweeten it a bit. Or, you can brew it with the Peppermint Tummy Tea, which will completely mask the taste of the fennel but still give you the benefits.

It really helps at first to drink as many cups of the fennel tea per day for the first few days as you can possibly manage. That will "overwhelm" your gut with fennel and help you get on top of the bloating and gas. Then you can drop down to a reasonable amount of a cup or two per day and keep bloating and gas in check.

If you do decide you don't want the fennel tea, you can certainly return it to us at any time for a full refund.

Hi Kate - I'm so glad you like the pep caps! But, I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

Opinion

I began taking 1/4 tsp twice a day ... I've been using this product for the past 2 weeks. I was thrilled when I didn't wake up with nausea from gas buildup during the night - still had the gas - but I developed cramping so I cut back to 1/4 tsp each day which does help but I still need the anti-spasmodic medicine Bentyl but not as much. I still experience 1/2 solid stool in pellet form and some solid and then diarrhea - I am keeping a food journal too but I don't think my system will ever return to normal again. This is my new normal. It's better and I am grateful for that. I also purchased the IBS cookbook which I read for dietary suggestions.

Hi Leslie - It's good that you have started the fiber at a low dose, but you need to gradually increase that dose in order to see any benefits. The purpose of starting low, increasing gradually, is to get your gut used to more fiber (fiber is literally indigestible).

¼ tsp is only ½ gram of fiber - that is not enough to get any benefits from. See if you can increase your dose to ½ tsp twice a day. After 4-5 days go to 1 tsp in the am, and still ½ tsp in the pm. After another 4-5 days make both doses 1 tsp. And continue to increase slowly but steadily from there.

The gradual increase should prevent gas and bloating. Getting your dose up high enough will help prevent the painful spasms from IBS.

Hi Dolores - Thanks for your feedback! You are right, the Tummy Fiber dissolves best in room temperature liquids. But, if you want to use the fiber in hot or cold beverages, there is an easy trick for that. Just add the Tummy Fiber to your empty glass, then add only enough room temperature liquid to dissolve it. Once it is liquefied, you can add boiling hot or ice cold liquids to fill the glass and it will be fine.

Hi Pamela - I'm so sorry you are not having good results with the peppermint oil capsules.

There are a few things we have found that help to prevent heartburn or stomach/throat discomfort from the peppermint oil:

1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux. HOWEVER! There are some people (I'm actually one of them) who have problems with the caps when they wait the full hour before they eat. If you previously took the cap on an empty stomach, and waited an hour before eating, and still had problems, you might be one of those people. In that case, try taking a cap on an empty stomach just 5-10 minutes before eating, and see if that works better for you.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they'll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn't take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

If you still have problems please don't hesitate to return the caps, opened or unopened, for a full refund. If pain is your major issue, you may have better results from the Peppermint Tummy Tea. It's not as powerful as the peppermint oil capsules, but you can take it on a full stomach, and it works more quickly than the caps (the caps are a better preventative).

Hi there,
I am glad that you are enjoying the peppermint and fennel teas! I agree they are delicious!

Sometimes the best way for the teas to be effective for the cramping/bloating/gas is to "overwhelm" your gut with it for the first few days. Drink the teas till you are just sick of them for a good 2-3 days. This can help stop the bloating, gas, and cramping so you can get on top of it, and then you can drop down to a reasonable amount.

In general, the caps are stronger, but the teas work more quickly, and can be taken on a full stomach (whereas the caps have to be taken on an empty stomach).

However, since you're not seeing results, I would go with the caps and teas combined, and see if you can take 3 of the caps per day.

If you do decide that they are not working well, you can certainly return the products for a refund.

All of your products have helped me a lot
I use the fiber, peppermint caps and tea and now mu daughter is using them. They have helped a whole lot. I can only use the fiber for 5 or 6 weeks then have to switch to something else for 5 or 6 weeks then can go back. Everything I use stops working after that amount of time. The girl at your business says to use more but it's too expensive for that so I didn't try it. I pretty much quit drinking coffe and drink your tea all the time. I find I can get several cups out of one tea bag. I love it. I'm so happy I found your products.

Hi Evadna - I'm so sorry for the delay with your order. Our database shows you ordered on 1/9 and your order shipped on 1/10, so I don't know why there was a delay with receiving the items. Normally priority mail takes 2-5 days.

Please do continue with the hypnotherapy program. For some people it takes the full 100 days to see results, especially if your IBS has been severe and chronic for a long time. But if you follow the entire program the odds are very high it will help you tremendously.

For the Tummy Fiber, make sure you have started with a low dose of just ½ teaspoon twice daily, but that you continue to gradually increase your dose. Diarrhea can take 1-3 tablespoons per day to resolve, and constipation can take 3-5 tablespoons per day. But it can take some time to gradually get your doses up to these levels, and it does take some patience. I hate asking people with IBS to wait and go gradually, but the fiber really does work best if you take it slow and steady, and continue to gradually increase.

Amazing Product that works GREAT!!!!!
I had a small bowel resection in 2008 due to blood clots in my mesenteric arteries. Due to scar tissue and adhesions from that surgery, I developed a bowel obstruction in December 2012. I was advised by a dietitian to avoid foods that are high in insolubl fiber. Since I have a sister with colon cancer, I was also advised to get plenty of fiber each day. After lots of confusion and frustration, I found the answer for both issues. Heather's Tummy Fiber has the soluble fiber that will help keep my colon healthy while also not causing issues with the bowel obstruction. I'm not yet positive this product works for me.

I have had IBS most of my life, have GERD, and was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. It seems that the peppermint capsules may be causing heartburn, even though I take them according to directions. I'm taking it very slow and trying to see if these will work for me.

Some people with severe GERD/Reflux/chronic heartburn still have problems with the peppermint capsules because they will dissolve in the stomach before reaching the intestines. The antispasmodic effect you want to happen in your intestines will then occur in the stomach and this relaxes the sphincters at the top of the stomach. If this happens, it can lead to heartburn.

There are a few things we have found that help to prevent this from happening:

1)Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux.

2)The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3)Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they'll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4)You shouldn't take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

On a related note, not being able to tolerate the enteric coated peppermint oil capsules because they are dissolving in the stomach and causing heartburn or peppermint burping might indicate low stomach acid. We learned to use enteric coated capsules as an informal way to assess whether the stomach acid was adequate. If the stomach acid is high enough, they should not dissolve until they reach the intestines where the acid is low. This means you shouldn't burp up anything or have any upper GI complications at all. In naturopathic medicine, heartburn is often thought to be caused by low stomach acid which causes the undigested food to sit in the stomach too long and create pressure. It can also contribute to inadequately digested protein in the stomach. This can disrupt the digestive process downstream as well. If you followed the three tips I listed above and still experienced heartburn, you might want to follow up with a provider to test your stomach acid levels. A naturopath or nutritionist would probably be the best type of provider to address this for you.

Pills did not help, not useful for IBS at all - waste of money.

Pills were useless, only results were 'peppermint' breath and 'peppermint' burps! Complete was of money.

Works great!
After a few weeks, the bloating and pain symptoms subsided almost completely. It also helped with the constipation-when you are used to going once to twice a week, daily is amazing =) FYI-It also dissolves better if you let it sit for few minutes after stirring.
