I found the program to be counter intuitive for IBSc patients

I felt cheated when my package arrived as it did not have all the items specified in the $53 order. I called customer service and they denied my claim. This material is not geared to IBSc patients and I found the fiber samples I took were no different in texture and composition than some over the counter products. I sent the entire package back and have a very poor opinion of helpforibs.com. The dietary guidelines were very general and not much more helpful than what we get from our doctors. I was so disappointed.

We actually just received your return in the mail and it includes all three of these items. I am so sorry for any confusion, but I'm not clear about what product you think was missing.

I also checked your order notes in our system and there is nothing that shows you called with a complaint about missing items. We would never deny a customer claim for problems with an order. If you were missing an item we would immediately send that to you. Again, my apologies.

Both of the books, and the fiber, are geared to global IBS symptoms, including constipation. The fiber would likely take a higher dose for constipation than diarrhea would, but you'd start at a low dose and gradually increase until the constipation resolved. The fiber is organic, prebiotic, whole foods pure soluble fiber with nothing added and no IBS triggers - this makes it substantially different from most OTC fiber supplements.

The dietary information in the books is also for constipation as well as diarrhea. I'm so sorry you found the dietary guidelines too general. If you have specific questions about diet please just let me know. Usually the feedback I receive about the IBS dietary information is that it is too detailed and people can feel a bit overwhelmed by this. I haven't had a comment before that the diet information is too general so I'd be more than happy to help give you more information.

You can just resume your Tummy Fiber at the dose you were on. A day or two is not enough of time off the product to affect your gut's comfort level with your current dose. If you stopped taking it for several months, then you might have to start back in with a lower dose and gradually increase.

not crazy about taste, not sureif it's helping

I've been drinking the fennel tea every day since receiving it a couple of weeks ago. I put peppermint tea in also, it helps with the taste. have not noticed a significant decrease in gas and bloating, still an issue. Will continue to use it ad hope for the best. I bought a boatload on sale and don't want to waste it.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the Tummy Tamers Peppermint Oil Capsules.
Here are some helpful tips for taking them:
1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux. HOWEVER! There are some people who have problems with the caps when they wait the full hour before they eat. If you previously took the cap on an empty stomach, and waited an hour before eating, and still had problems, you might be one of those people. In that case, try taking a cap on an empty stomach just 5-10 minutes before eating, and see if that works better for you.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they'll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn't take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

If you are still experiencing bloating and gas try using our Fennel Tummy Tea for immediate symptom relief.

Hi Jane! You are right, the Tummy Fiber dissolves best in room temperature water, not very hot or very cold liquids. If you want to add it to hot liquids, there is an easy way around this. Add the fiber to your empty cup, then add just enough room temp liquid to liquefy it. Once it's liquefied, you can add boiling hot or ice cold liquids to fill the glass. Hope this helps, Heather

Hello Leanne,

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree – also known as gum arabic. We have actually sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier from the time our company was founded. It is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

We recommend starting with 1/2 teaspoon twice daily (that’s a dose of 1 teaspoon total per day) and gradually increasing that every 4-5 days. It is helpful to take the Tummy Fiber on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning and again before meals because it provides a great soluble fiber supplement "buffer" for meals that follow, and it's a terrific way to stabilize in the morning.

I love the packaging, quality of product and service.

I have been using Heather's Tummy Fiber for years and it has made my life a whole lot smoother (no pun intended). I would not be without it or use anything else. I have been ordering the peppermint tea for years, the over sized bags were just great, however once I found out how to make my tea with the loose tea pouches it felt like I had struck gold. Postage to Canada is always more expensive because it has to cross the border. Our shipping rates are based on the average cost to ship when we examined 6 months of order history. Occasionally, someone might pay a little more or a little less than the actual shipping charge, but in the end we sometimes break even. We do not, nor do we want to, make a profit on shipping.

We completely understand customers' frustrations with shipping prices, because they just keep going up. USPS has raised the prices for priority mail shipping twice in the last eighteen months. This means we have to keep increasing our shipping prices as well. It is simply not feasible to charge customers the actual shipping cost for each order. There are too many variations in flat rate versus variable rate packaging, size, and weight issues. It is the industry standard to create a shipping fee schedule based on the average cost of shipping per item (www.amazon.com does this as well).

Here are some tips for taking them:

1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux. HOWEVER! There are some people who have problems with the caps when they wait the full hour before they eat. If you previously took the cap on an empty stomach, and waited an hour before eating, and still had problems, you might be one of those people. In that case, try taking a cap on an empty stomach just 5-10 minutes before eating, and see if that works better for you.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they'll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn't take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

Depending on your symptoms, it may take several weeks to reach a resolving daily dose of the Tummy Fiber. Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because the results can be really effective.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose).

If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

I find that I suffer heartburn occasionally, mostly first thing in the am after taking the peppermint caps. I also take a medication for acid reflux - I have for more than 10 years I take the 2 together as the instructions advise people with acid reflux, it is best taken 1 hour before eating. ironically, it seems to dissipate after eating.........any suggestions to avoid the frequent heart burn symptoms? I take the peppermint caps primarily for the fennel component as I loathe the taste of fennel and had to discontinue use of the tea for that reason........ Is there a fennel cap to replace the tea?

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been suffering from some heartburn.

It's great that you're taking the capsules an hour before eating, although it's best not to take the Tummy Tamers at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) meant to lower your stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember, it's resistant to high acid). Try taking the Tummy Tamers about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication, and then have your meal.

At this time we do not have any fennel-only oil capsules to offer, only that which is included in the peppermint capsules. If you have the fennel tea, try changing the taste by adding some natural sugar, honey, or combining it with the peppermint tea. Tea combinations are especially delicious!

If the peppermint caps continue to give you bouts of heartburn, please do not hesitate to return them for a full refund.

Hi Richard - I am so sorry to hear this! The peppermint oil caps are really potent, and should work well to prevent painful spasms. If you're not prone to heartburn, you can likely tolerate the full dose of three capsules per day.

We even have a handful of customers who have no heartburn issues, who are really prone to sudden, severe IBS attacks of pain and cramps, who use the capsules two at a time.

You may want to try raising the dose on these, and doing three caps a day, every day, or even give the two caps at a time a shot (assuming you don't have heartburn issues).

If they just aren't working for you, please don't hesitate to return them at any time for a full refund.

Here are some tips for taking our Peppermint Oil Capsules:

1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux. HOWEVER! There are some people who have problems with the caps when they wait the full hour before they eat. If you previously took the cap on an empty stomach, and waited an hour before eating, and still had problems, you might be one of those people. In that case, try taking a cap on an empty stomach just 5-10 minutes before eating, and see if that works better for you.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they'll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn't take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

I'm sorry to hear that the peppermint capsules did not have their desired effect.

The capsules work best when taken on an empty stomach with as little water as possible to swallow it about an hour before eating, or 2 hours after eating. This way, the capsules can get all the way through the stomach before the coating dissolves, and the oil can coat the lining of your system. That should prevent abdominal cramping, spasms, bloating, and gas.

I have been using Acacia Senegal since Heather introduced it to the market and my IBS constipation is under control. I don't remember when was the last time I had an attack. The tea bags are huge, so I was surprised at the size. The flavor is good and results favorable.

I'm wondering if the bags are so large because they're intended for a pot of tea rather than a cup. I've used one bag for two or three cups but am hesitant to use one if I only need one cup of tea. I don't want to waste them.

The sizes of our teabags are jumbo sized because we want our customers to receive all the benefits from the medicinal strength peppermint leaves to instantly relieve any IBS symptoms and we want to make sure that our customers can receive immediate symptom relief.

Feel free to use 1 jumbo sized tea bags per cup of Peppermint tea to help relieve pain and cramping or to use a few to brew a larger pot of tea.

Love acacia fiber -- notsomuch the peppermint caps

Heather's Tummy Fiber works very well for me. The constipation/diarrhea problem is gone, and the painful gut cramps as well. I bought some for my brother, and forwarded the information about diarrhea after having the gall bladder removed, since he has had his gall bladder removed, and now is having this problem. I can see that Heather wants to help us with high quality products, so I come back here even though there are cheaper acacia powders out there. It's not worth the risk of pain to even try them. Some say a happy wife means a happy life, well I can say from first hand experience that a happy gut means a happy life, too.

Product works O.K. but does not dissovle well

I used the travel "sticks" recently and found the product did not dissovlve nearly as well as the product in the large container. Got jelly like splotches of product several times when disolving the packet in water.

Hello Phillip,

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The fiber in the stick packs is the exact same fiber we use in our larger containers.

Here is a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

A new staple in my house!
I've been drinking this delicious tea for at least 6 months now. I do sometimes alternate between the peppermint and other herbal teas, but I find myself drinking the peppermint tea most often. I use a French press so I can make a strong batch up daily, and I generally drink it iced with a little sugar. It definitely settles my stomach, and I highly recommend it over other "brands" because of the strength.
