Hi Jane! You are right, the Tummy Fiber dissolves best in room temperature water, not very hot or very cold liquids. If you want to add it to hot liquids, there is an easy way around this. Add the fiber to your empty cup, then add just enough room temp liquid to liquefy it. Once it's liquefied, you can add boiling hot or ice cold liquids to fill the glass. Hope this helps, Heather

I have been using Heather's IBS acacia powder for I believe 8 yrs or thereabouts. I feel this product is the main piece of solving the IBS dilema. Iv'e seen MD specialists in gastroenterology who still see this medical condition as unsolvable without providing any solutions for management other than Metamucil and certain restrictive dets. Hello Leanne,

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree – also known as gum arabic. We have actually sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier from the time our company was founded. It is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

I've been using the tummy fiber for over a year. This fiber has saved my life! It took a few months to see full results, so it's important to stick with it. With the acacia and life style changes with food and exercise I don't have any flare ups any more. Accept when I make poor food choices. But with the fennel and peppermint teas I am able to recover within 24 hours instead of days or weeks. Diet and exercise are so important in maintaining a healthy gut along with the acacia fiber. I have been using Heather's Tummy Fiber for years and it has made my life a whole lot smoother (no pun intended). I would not be without it or use anything else. The travel packs would be a lot more useful to me if they contained a TBS rather than just a TSP., but that is a minor thing. I just pour some in ziplock bag when I am traveling. The Fennel Tea is wonderful and very helpful. I always have some of that and the Peppermint Tea on hand. And Heather is a beautiful sweetheart.

Postage to Canada is always more expensive because it has to cross the border. Our shipping rates are based on the average cost to ship when we examined 6 months of order history. Occasionally, someone might pay a little more or a little less than the actual shipping charge, but in the end we sometimes break even. We do not, nor do we want to, make a profit on shipping.

Our shipping policies are detailed on the website here http://www.helpforibs.com/shop/shipping.asp and there is also a specific shipping price provided on the checkout page when you order online.

We completely understand customers' frustrations with shipping prices, because they just keep going up. USPS has raised the prices for priority mail shipping twice in the last eighteen months. This means we have to keep increasing our shipping prices as well. It is simply not feasible to charge customers the actual shipping cost for each order. There are too many variations in flat rate versus variable rate packaging, size, and weight issues. It is the industry standard to create a shipping fee schedule based on the average cost of shipping per item (www.amazon.com does this as well).

There is no less expensive means of shipping that we're aware of. FedEx and UPS are both as expensive (or more) than priority mail, and they usually take longer for delivery as well.

We reduce the prices of the products on the website from the suggested retail price to help offset the cost of shipping.

Depending on your symptoms, it may take several weeks to reach a resolving daily dose of the Tummy Fiber. Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because the results can be really effective.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose).

If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

I think it's making a difference.
I have tried alot of suggested treatments. The tummy fiber seems to be the one that is making the biggest difference. It has cut down the frequency of emergency trips to the restroom. That's a big deal. I'm taking 2 packets a day. One at breakfast in my coffee and one at lunch.

Heather's Tummy Fiber works very well for me. The constipation/diarrhea problem is gone, and the painful gut cramps as well. I bought some for my brother, and forwarded the information about diarrhea after having the gall bladder removed, since he has had his gall bladder removed, and now is having this problem. I can see that Heather wants to help us with high quality products, so I come back here even though there are cheaper acacia powders out there. It's not worth the risk of pain to even try them. Some say a happy wife means a happy life, well I can say from first hand experience that a happy gut means a happy life, too.

Product works O.K. but does not dissovle well

I used the travel "sticks" recently and found the product did not dissovlve nearly as well as the product in the large container. Got jelly like splotches of product several times when disolving the packet in water.

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The fiber in the stick packs is the exact same fiber we use in our larger containers.

Here is a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

Hello Darla,

I am so sorry your mom is not satisfied with the product.

The cardinal rule with Acacia is to start at a low dose (for Acacia, just 1/2 a level measuring teaspoon, twice daily), and increase gradually. It can take several weeks to slowly work your way up to your daily resolving dose.

Acacia is not a laxative, and it will not give "overnight relief", so taking a low dose for a few days or even a few weeks will not alleviate your symptoms. What it will do is begin to acclimate your gut to a higher daily dose of fiber, and this is the goal. It may be that your mom still needs to keep increasing in order to see the results she is looking for.

Generally those with the diarrhea side of IBS will resolve between 1 and 3 Tablespoons a day. Those with constipation need more fiber for relief and may need 3-5 Tablespoons a day. My guess is since your mom alternates between the two, she may need to reach a daily dose between 2 and 4 Tablespoons a day.

If she is still not satisfied, she is welcome to send back the Tummy Fiber for a refund.

I am so sorry you do not like that the Tummy Fiber is tasteless. It is meant to be that way so you can add it to plain water, or flavored liquids, and not even know it is there.

You may want to try mixing it into moist foods such as oatmeal, soups, cereals, adding it to smoothies or sprinkling it onto sandwiches or other foods.

If you would like to continue taking it with flavored water, make sure the flavored water does not have any artificial sweeteners or carbonation. Sometimes the flavored waters do have those and can actually trigger IBS symptoms.

I also see that you were not completely satisfied with our Customer Service or Speed of Delivery. I am so sorry about that! Both are very important to us. We aim to get all orders out the next business day after they are placed and use Priority Mail for the fastest and least expensive shipping methods we know.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our Customer Service and Speed of Delivery on orders we would gladly accept them.

I really do not see any noticeable difference and I'm almost to the bottom of the canister. Adding it to food wasn't appealing and mixing it with water wasn't much better. It never fully dissolves no matter how long it sits or I stir it. I do not have the typical constipation or diarrhea, but gas, bloating, pain and food intolerance. For these symptoms it did not help at all. I ordered the pouch at the same time and really don't want to use it. I'm sorry I ordered both at the same time.

Hi Michel - you are right, the Tummy Fiber dissolves best in room temperature water, not liquids that are boiling hot or ice cold. But, you can liquefy the fiber in just enough water to get it dissolved, and once it's liquefied you can add it to boiling or iced liquids and it will be fine.

The other fibers on the market that dissolve instantly across all temperatures are very highly processed, and are typically refined by-products of other food manufacturing processes (like dextrin from wheat or corn). They are not whole foods fibers like the acacia. The acacia senegal is literally the entire gum acacia produced by the tree (a little like syrup from maple trees) and it is not highly refined or extracted into multiple elements. This makes it a much higher quality, and we think a much better, soluble fiber supplement choice.

You can also just sprinkle the fiber on any moist food and not bother with adding it to liquids if you wish.

It sounds like you need to increase the amount of Tummy Fiber you are taking daily. Typically those with IBS-D need to take 1-3 Tablespoons a day to resolve diarrhea.

Each Tummy Fiber Travel Packet contains about 1 teaspoon of Tummy Fiber. These are great for convenience and to try the Tummy Fiber, but I would recommend ordering the Tummy Fiber Canister so you have enough fiber to notice more results.

Remember to gradually increase your total daily dose of Tummy Fiber by 1/2 teaspoon every 4-5 days until you find relief. Once you feel resolved you can stick with that daily dose from there on out.

Fantastic product
A few months past I ordered the Tummy Fiber Acacia Senegal can. I must say that I did have my doubts. I have IBS-C and along with the constipation, gas and bloating. I take 1 and a half teaspoons of the fiber twice a day. Not immediate results but gradually the bloating subsided. Still some gas but I am much more regular. I have tried many fiber products without any results and of course Miralax. This is the only product that I need now. My only criticism is that sometimes the fiber will clump up and not dissolve. Perhaps it is the humid summer that we are experiencing. No matter this product has helped me tremendously.

Pleased with Heather's Tummy Fiber
Heather's Tummy Fiber has made my life much better. I either have constipation or on occasion, diarrhea, which lowers my energy so much that I can't do anything that I need to do for a day or two. Now, when my gut feels like I might have diarrhea, I take 1/2 tsp. of Heather's Tummy Fiber, relax and in only a few minutes the feeling goes away, and my gut no longer feels like it is going to spasm. I've learned what works for me with the tummy fiber, I can take a teaspoon or so of it at night and in the morning, no more constipation. This is a huge improvement in my quality of life.

I am so sorry you did not think the Speed of Delivery was completely satisfactory. Normally orders to foreign countries take 3-7 business days. Sometimes, however, foreign orders are held up at Customs. It is very frustrating for us as well because it seems to be totally random as to whether Customs will hold an order and for how long. We have customers that order from us regularly for years without any complications and then out of the blue one of their packages will be detained for weeks on end.

It has been our experience that Customs can hold packages for 6-8 weeks sometimes. This doesn't happen to all packages, but occasionally especially with larger orders, it can happen. A delay like this is especially likely to happen when there are Customs fees due upon delivery. Sometimes orders will be held at the local post office, awaiting customer pick-up and payment of the Customs fees. This has actually happened in the past without the post office ever notifying the customer that their package was being held. So, you could check and see if your local post office does have the order for you. If things are held up in Customs, we just have to wait until they're finally processed through. All of their contact will be with you, so we never even know if Customs is holding a package until the customer passes this info along to us.

Awesome product.

I think is is helping my IBS symptoms. It's such a relief that something is finally helping!!!
I've also been using the Fod-maps diet, taking 10 mgs. of Elavil, and "Live Go" a pre and probiotic...it all seems to be working well together. It took about 3 weeks but I feel SO much better and am not exhausted all of the time from the energy drain of poor digestion. Thanks!!!

Best Fiber Product I have ever used!!
I have suffered with IBS my whole life and have had to rely on fiber products that often produce painful gas and bloating. "Acacia Senegal-Tummy Fiber" never causes me any distress on top of what may already be painful. I put it in my morning protein shakes, mix it with vitamin water, put it in my yogurt, and even slip it into my kids' foods because they don't get enough fiber. They don't even know it's there! Love this product!!!!! :D

Great Product!
After paying way to much money and "getting by" on grocery store fiber suppliments full of sugar and a host of other undesireable ingredients I finally did the math and realized that ordering bulk orders of Heather's Tummy Fiber would be cheaper and a much higher quality product. This fiber is wonderful, it is clean and I can put in in food or a glass of water. I have IBS-C and changing to this higher quality fiber is definitely making a positive difference in my symptoms. I've been using Heather's Acacia Powder for many years now.
It's so much better then Citrucil or Metamucil. I love that it's all natural and gluten free. I take 2 TBS. twice a day and it really helps keep me regular. When I order it thru Heather it almost always comes within a couple days. I have even gotten a couple of my daughters using it. It's really helped us regulate whether it's diarrhea or constipation. I will not stop using it ever. I'm at a good place with my IBS and I know a lot of that is due to Heather's Acacia Powder. GREAT STUFF!!

Life changing
Before Tummy Fiber, I couldn't eat out at all. Everything gave me what I call "Panic Diarrhea". Now I mix 1 tablespoon of Tummy Fiber with about 6 oz. of water two times per day and it has cleared up my IBS and has permitted me to enjoy going out to eat. I still avoid my trigger foods but the Tummy Fiber has cured the diarrhea which in turn has cured the panic. Thank you Heather for a great product and the support and guidance you offer us sufferers.
