I am so sorry you are not satisfied with the Peppermint Tummy Tea. The tea is best for quick relief of IBS pain, spasms, cramps, and urgency. It won't really address other IBS symptoms. The most effective way to use the teas for pain and cramping is to "overwhelm" your gut with it for the first few days. Drink the teas till you are just sick of them for a good 2-3 days. This can help stop the pain and cramping so you can get on top of it, and then you can drop down to drinking the tea as needed.

If you do decide that this is just not working for you, then you can certainly return the product for a full refund.

Hi Laurie,

I am sorry to hear that you were unable to use many of the recipes due to your gluten intolerance. This cookbook is specific for IBS-safe recipes and not gluten sensitivities. Following a gluten free diet is much more difficult than following the IBS diet, and some people find it easier to start with a gluten free cookbook and modify those recipes for IBS. For Heather's recipes, you may be able to substitute gluten free soluble fiber staples like rice, rice noodles, potatoes, cornmeal and polenta, oatmeal (should be labeled as gluten free so there is no cross contamination from other grains) quinoa, root vegetables, tapioca, amaranth, buckwheat, and soy.

I found out I had ibs. 6 years ago. After no help from my doctor I started my own research. I found Heathers web site and started eating right. This kept the symptoms at bay. I was episode free until February 2014. Worst pisode ever. 20 days of diaheria and constipation. I ordered the tummy fiber. Unbelievable within 4 days diaheria gone. Here are some tips to help easily dissolve the Tummy Fiber in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

Too Strong

The tea bags probably help -- I know the peppermint capsules do, but I found them to be too strong for my taste. I'll try to brew the next cup for a shorter period.

Thank you for your feedback. If you find the peppermint tea bags too strong, you can certainly brew them for a shorter amount of time, or use a larger cup of water. They are meant to be medicinal strength, as the higher the volatile oil, and the stronger the tea, the more effective it will be for IBS pain, spasms, and cramps.

If you are comfortable brewing loose tea, we also have cans and refill pouches of loose-leaf peppermint, so you could customize the amount you use per cup.

Hi Don,

Thanks for giving us your feedback.

You may need to increase your dosage of acacia fiber before you see results. You'd want to start with 1/2 teaspoon twice daily, but that is not typically a final dose where you will see results. On average, diarrhea takes 2-3 tablespoons per day to resolve (it may take less). Constipation can take up to 3-5 tablespoons per day, the higher end is more likely if the constipation has been severe and chronic. Please remember to raise your Acacia fiber dosage level by 1/2 - 1 teaspoon at a time, every few days or every week, until your bowel function has stabilized.

psillium (konsyl) works much better than Acacia so far, but i'll keep trying.

One of the most common fiber supplements is psyllium (sold as Metamucil,
Konsyl, Fibrogel, or as bulk husks), and it is actually about 1/3 insoluble
fiber. Psyllium can worsen (or even cause) bloat and stomach gas in many
people, which is why we recommend sticking to a 100% soluble fiber
supplement.

I recommend increasing your dosage of Acacia fiber gradually, until your
symptoms stabilize. That can be anywhere from 2-5 tablespoons per day total, depending
on the severity of your symptoms.

Please let us know if you need more direction while taking the Acacia
fiber.

Peppermint tea bags too large

Tea bags are too large for a one- or even two-time use .... Should be smaller w/ larger quantity in the container. I wanted them for traveling and will likely use only one time before moving on .... What a waste!

Hello Patricia,

Thank you so much for the response. We really appreciate that you took the time to provide us with feedback.

Our teabags are jumbo size so we can provide a large amount of high volatile oil tea per serving. The higher the volatile oil, the stronger the tea, and the more effecive it will be for IBS abdominal pain and cramping. One teabag is meant to make one very strong cup of tea. If it is too strong for you, you can certainly use one teabag with a larger amount of water in a bigger cup, or one tea bag for a whole tea pot. You could also brew the tea for a shorter amount of time - instead of the standard 5-10 minutes try just 1-2 minutes.

If you would like to customize the amount of tea per cup it would be a really economical option for you to use the loose tea instead of the tea bags. That way you could add exactly how much you want per cup.

Great info, great research great connection to those with IBS

while I truly believe in your product. I could not take it. I started with 1/2 tsp and decreased to 1/4 It bloated me beyond words and sucked evry ounce of h2o out of my system I jsut could not do it. I have severe sever IBS with a LUQ spasamand I cannot find anything to help. I have no more cramps belly pain and so on and have not had for a long while as I watch my diet closely but I can not elimante without digital removal and then only small amts. I was hopeful so hopeful for this product but am sad now. One thing though is pepermint yeah. Help if you can I am desperate thanks Bev

We're so sorry that you're having trouble with the Acacia Tummy Fiber.

Some people do have to start at an extremely low dose and gradually increase to get their gut used to extra fiber.

You may want to try starting out at just 1/8 teaspoon twice daily, and add an extra 1/8 teaspoon to one of your doses every 4-5 days or so.

It can also be helpful to add the fiber to moist foods instead of liquids.

For people who are particularly prone to bloating and gas this can make a big difference.

Regarding our Peppermint Tummy Tea, it is exceptionally beneficial for IBS abdominal pain and spasms, diarrhea, and urgency (it will not cause or worsen constipation).

If you remain unhappy with the fiber, please do return it for a full refund.

Good helpful information!
I have had one week with no problems!! I am being very careful still, but life is better... even had the courage to go to the new Hobbit move which is 2hr 40 min. long and did fine...no popcorn!! Have not had the courage to try the fiber supplement yet...I have never had luck with any fiber supplement I have tried...but I am still thinking about trying it. I live on this stuff now. My IBS symptoms are mostly better--that is, when i'm following exactly what the IBS cookbook says to do they are vastly better, and now I try hard to do that. I put the Tummy Fiber in jars of baby food, peaches, mostly. I am so sorry you did not find the speed of delivery satisfactory or customer service. Normally orders to foreign countries take 3-7 business days. Sometimes, however, foreign orders are held up at Customs. It is very frustrating for us as well because it seems to be totally random as to whether Customs will hold an order and for how long. We have customers that order from us regularly for years without any complications and then out of the blue one of their packages will be detained for weeks on end.
Orders placed Monday - Friday before 9am PST will normally ship that day. Otherwise, orders will normally ship the next business day.
Foreign orders normally arrive within 7-10 business days, unless they are held in Customs.

This product gave me gas even in small amounts; therefore, I wasn't able to build up to a high enough dose to do much for my relatively mild IBS-D. I will wait awhile and try it again, but so far I haven't been impressed. I do better with a high-quality probiotic and, when needed, a little psyllium husk stirred into juice or water.

People with Irritable Bowel Syndrome are statistically more likely to have upper GI problems (like GERD or reflux) as well. The good news is that the vast majority of dietary changes that help IBS will also help prevent or minimize heartburn - there are just a few special considerations you'll need to take.
The general IBS diet guidelines of low fat, high soluble fiber, and the careful addition of insoluble fiber, are well-suited to reflux as well. In particular, going low fat will be very beneficial for IBS and reflux both, so make sure you're avoiding the high fat trigger foods. While acidic foods can sometimes (but not always) bother IBS, they are very hard on reflux, so be careful with citrus, vinegars, and cooked tomatoes. Peppermint is wonderful for IBS but difficult for many people with reflux.
I would suggest the IBS dietary guidelines combined with the extra cautions for heartburn, and also the Fennel Tummy Tea. It will help IBS symptoms and also heartburn - unlike peppermint, it cannot worsen reflux.
If you can't use the book at all please do return it.

Hi Ginger - thank you very much for your kind product review! I saw your comments about sometimes missing a day or two, and that you're not sure what to do in that situation.

You can just resume your Tummy Fiber at the dose you were on. A day or two is not enough of time off the product to affect your gut's comfort level with your current dose. If you stopped taking it for several months, then you might have to start back in with a lower dose and gradually increase.

The tea bags are huge, so I was surprised at the size. The flavor is good and results favorable.

A new staple in my house!
I've been drinking this delicious tea for at least 6 months now. I do sometimes alternate between the peppermint and other herbal teas, but I find myself drinking the peppermint tea most often. I use a French press so I can make a strong batch up daily, and I generally drink it iced with a little sugar. Most of the recipes I cannot use

Sometimes the best way for the teas to be effective for the pain and cramping is to "overwhelm" your gut with it for the first few days. Drink the teas till you are just sick of them for a good 2-3 days. This can help stop the pain and cramping so you can get on top of it, and then you can drop down to drinking the tea as needed.

If you do decide that they are just not working for your mom, you can certainly return the products for a refund.

The cardinal rule with Acacia is to start at a low dose (for Acacia, just 1/2 a level measuring teaspoon, twice daily), and increase gradually. It can take several weeks to slowly work your way up to your daily resolving dose.

Acacia is not a laxative, and it will not give "overnight relief", so taking a low dose for a few days or even a few weeks will not alleviate your symptoms. What it will do is begin to acclimate your gut to a higher daily dose of fiber, and this is the goal. It may be that your mom still needs to keep increasing in order to see the results she is looking for.

Generally those with the diarrhea side of IBS will resolve between 1 and 3 Tablespoons a day. Those with constipation need more fiber for relief and may need 3-5 Tablespoons a day. My guess is since your mom alternates between the two, she may need to reach a daily dose between 2 and 4 Tablespoons a day.

If she is still not satisfied, she is welcome to send back the Tummy Fiber for a refund.

I normally use loose tea every morning but when I travel it's nice to have the bags. I have made my own tea bags, but they seem to fall apart with use. Peppermint is contraindicated for people with GERD/Reflux/chronic heartburn. Many people with IBS often have these conditions, so we worked around it by enteric coating the peppermint oil capsules, but this won't address GERD issues from the peppermint tea. The tea will directly affect your stomach and upper GI. It's fantastic for relaxing the lower gut, but that same relaxation effect in the upper gut can definitely trigger heartburn in those who are prone to it.

Hello Humberto,

I am so sorry you did not find the speed of delivery satisfactory. Normally orders to foreign countries take 3-7 business days. Sometimes, however, foreign orders are held up at Customs. It is very frustrating for us as well because it seems to be totally random as to whether Customs will hold an order and for how long. We have customers that order from us regularly for years without any complications and then out of the blue one of their packages will be detained for weeks on end.

It has been our experience that Customs can hold packages for 6-8 weeks sometimes. This doesn't happen to all packages, but occasionally especially with larger orders, it can happen. A delay like this is especially likely to happen when there are Customs fees due upon delivery. Sometimes orders will be held at the local post office, awaiting customer pick-up and payment of the Customs fees. This has actually happened in the past without the post office ever notifying the customer that their package was being held. So, you could check and see if your local post office does have the order for you. If things are held up in Customs, we just have to wait until they're finally processed through. All of their contact will be with you, so we never even know if Customs is holding a package until the customer passes this info along to us.

Hello Joy,

I am so sorry to hear this. It could be that you started with too high of a dose.

Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because this really does work.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose). If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.
